TRT: Building Experience & Opportunities in PNG

TRT in PNG 7

TRT Director Bruce Carden recently had the honour of joining New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon on a visit to Papua New Guinea, celebrating 50 years of independence, a milestone that reflects PNG’s journey as a nation and NZ’s role in supporting it. As New Zealand’s 4th largest Pacific export market and 36th globally, PNG is a key partner. For TRT, this visit was not only about marking the occasion but also about reinforcing our commitment to building strong, long-term partnerships that deliver mutual growth.

Red carpet welcome for TRT

The trip included a red-carpet welcome by the PNG PM James Marape with a Military salute. A gala dinner with key delegates, and round table meetings with business leaders from industry, finance, and the service sector.

Bruce presented TRT’s extensive experience in PNG, from supplying low-loader trailers to the Exxon Mobil LNG project in 2011, to our more recent supply to Newmont Group’s Lihir Gold site. This includes five trailers progressively delivered during 2025, the largest being our 4x8, 130-tonne capacity trailer now in transit between Brisbane and PNG. TRT’s Australian operations in QLD also supply FIFO staff for specialist crane servicing to support Manitowoc and Kobelco crane agencies in the country. Part of Bruce’s pitch was to demonstrate TRT’s proven experience in PNG and our ambition to expand further in the region.

The response from business leaders was overwhelmingly positive, many were unfamiliar with TRT but keen to learn about our capabilities and explore opportunities for future collaboration. With PNG poised for significant growth, including a US$13 billion LNG expansion project and strong gold mining operations, TRT is well-positioned to expand its presence and support more projects across the region.

Bruce Carden, TRT Director says, "It was an incredible honour to represent TRT alongside the Prime Minister. Sharing our experience in PNG and connecting with business leaders reinforces our commitment to supporting projects and partnerships across the Pacific."
