End-to-End Solutions. Made Possible by TRT.
25 June 2025
At TRT, we deliver comprehensive end-to-end heavy transport and lifting solutions across New Zealand and Australia.
From trailers, cranes, truck fit-outs, technologies, defence, parts, and service, we are your one-stop shop.
But we don’t just supply equipment. We deliver innovation, quality, and lifetime support. Whether you’re shifting loads, lifting heavy, or keeping your fleet moving, TRT is your trusted partner, solving problems is what we do best.
Trailers – Stronger Under Pressure
TRT trailers are designed to deliver a better return on investment from day one. Our in-house team designs, engineers, and manufactures a full range of trailers, from ESS modular platform trailers, low loaders, house trailers, crane support trailers to deck wideners, tippers, dollies, and custom builds.
Every trailer starts with high-grade steel and is built under one roof, allowing us to control every detail, from cutting and fabrication to final assembly.
We’re proud to hold several patents, including our world-first Electronic Steering System (ESS). It’s this blend of modern tech and proven trailer mechanics that gives our customers superior manoeuvrability, safety, and efficiency on even the most complex jobs.
What really sets TRT apart is our commitment to long-term support. Our nationwide dealer network ensures you have access to service, parts, and expert advice when you need it most.
As Shane McDonald Owner of McDonald Contracting puts it, “The ability to ring them, often at odd hours, with an issue or a question and have them submit help or information quickly has always been there.”
That level of support is why so many across New Zealand and Australia continue to choose TRT as their trusted trailer partner.
Cranes - We Do the Heavy Lifting
Backed by decades of experience, TRT’s crane solutions are built on a legacy of trusted partnerships and industry-leading innovation. We’ve proudly partnered with global giants Manitowoc, Grove, and Potain for over 50 years, making us one of the longest-standing Manitowoc distributors in the world.
In New Zealand, TRT is the exclusive distributor of the full Manitowoc product range. In Australia, we are the authorised distributor for Manitowoc and Grove products in Queensland. TRT was also appointed the Kobelco Crawler Crane distributor for Oceania in 2020 and became the exclusive Hiab agent in New Zealand in 2016.
We’re also the manufacturer of the TIDD Crane Borer and the TIDD PC28-3G, Australia’s safest pick-and-carry crane. Designed and built in-house, the TIDD PC28-3G is engineered for maximum safety and performance, featuring premium components and the latest low-emissions engine technology.
Our crane capabilities don’t stop there. We manufacture crane outrigger pads and crane trailers, offering a true end-to-end solution for crane operators.
As Scott McLeod, Managing Director of McLeod Cranes, says, “TRT has designed the TIDD in such a way that it’s actually moved the market. Previously the market was quite stagnated when it came to health and safety in this space. But TRT’s designs have helped to move the ball forward. I could quite confidently say that there’s others that are now playing catch-up as a result.”
Truck Fit-Outs – Get into Gear
TRT’s end-to-end manufacturing operation in New Zealand covers every aspect of truck fit-outs, trailer builds, and repairs, all managed under one roof. With over 58 years of industry expertise and a skilled team of design, fabrication, and repair specialists, we deliver tailored solutions with precision and efficiency.
A standout example is a major fleet refit for Fonterra, where TRT repurposed end-of-life tanker trucks into tractor units capable of towing 16.5m refrigerated trailers. The project involved shortening the 8x4 truck chassis by 700mm and repositioning the rear axles forward to optimise weight distribution on the steer axles when fully loaded. Instead of cutting the chassis mid-frame, our team shortened from the rear and repositioned the axles, a more effective and structurally sound solution.
With all expertise and equipment on-site, there’s not much we can’t do, won’t do, or haven’t done before.
From fifth wheels and guards to hydraulic systems and chassis modifications, we deliver high-quality workmanship supported by advanced facilities and a commitment to meeting your exact specifications.
Technologies - Engineered for Industry
Driven by our continuous focus on innovation and actively exceeding expectations for our customers, TRT’s innovative technology systems are designed to boost operational efficiency and safety for our customers.
Our first major tech breakthrough, TRT Traction Air® CTI, launched in 1997, was designed to cut costs for logging truck operators while improving access and safety. The experience gained in logging has paved the way for Traction Air to be used in a variety of other applications. It is now fitted to tippers, spreader trucks, pick and carry cranes, prime movers in the heavy haul industry, and more. This semi-automated central tyre inflation system offers in-cab control for optimised tyre pressure, improving fuel efficiency, extending tyre life, and enhancing road safety.
We continued this forward thinking with Slew Safe™, a game-changing pick and carry crane technology that helps operators stay within the load chart. It reduces the risk of overloads and accidents, keeping both the operator and site safer.
Our Electronic Steering System (ESS) is integrated into our platform trailers, house trailers, and most recently, our 4x8 low loaders. ESS dramatically improves manoeuvrability, safety, and precision in complex environments.
“The exceptional and versatile capabilities of TRT’s ESS Modular Platform Technology make these trailers an unparalleled choice for complex tasks. Their innovative configurations have made them the preferred solution over other options.”
— Conan Jenkins, Heavy Lift Specialist, John Holland Group
Another key innovation is our Quick Connect system, which enables trailers to be reconfigured into completely new units in just 30 to 90 minutes depending on the trailer type. That’s adaptability on demand.
We’re a company of doers, we don’t just dream up ideas, we bring them to life. TRT technologies are often born from time spent with customers on-site, understanding real challenges, and developing smarter solutions that work in the real world.
Allied With Defence
TRT has a longstanding reputation as a trusted, innovative supplier to Prime Contractors and Defence across Australia and New Zealand (CAGE code EM778). This recognition is a direct reflection of our core values, Out-think, Out-serve, Own it, and Open Minds.
Defence demands more than just performance, it demands excellence. The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has some of the most rigorous safety and quality standards in the world. They don’t compromise on the wellbeing of their people, and neither do we. That’s why they trust TRT.
We don’t retrofit existing products to fit Defence needs. We work in close collaboration with prime contractors and Defence representatives to fully understand their unique operational requirements, then design tailored solutions from the ground up. These often extend well beyond traditional transport and logistics equipment.
At TRT, we don’t shy away from complexity, we build for it. That’s why our equipment supports the operations of both the New Zealand and Australian Defence Forces.
Parts Experts
With 24/7 expert support, local stock, and nationwide delivery, TRT ensures you get the right part when you need it, no delays, no compromises.
In New Zealand, we stock an extensive range of genuine OEM truck and trailer parts, including transmissions, axle and suspension systems, trailer couplings, fifth wheels, brakes, hydraulics, drive shafts, exhausts, and more. We also supply truck and machinery seats from leading global brands like KAB, Bostrom, and Pilot, along with full-seat refurbishments.
For crane parts, TRT has you covered with a comprehensive inventory for most major makes and models including Manitowoc, Grove, Potain, TIDD, Kobelco, HIAB, Robway, and Japanese equipment.
Thanks to our global supply network and strong local partnerships, we can source even the hardest-to-find parts. Our priority is simple: keep your business moving. That’s why we offer same-day or next-day delivery from local stock across New Zealand and Australia.
At TRT, our approach to parts is built on one principle - Out-serve. We go beyond expectations to deliver the service and support your business needs to stay ahead.

From truck maintenance to crane servicing and rebuilds, TRT New Zealand services every corner of the transport and lifting industry to keep fleets moving. With a fully integrated approach to truck and trailer servicing, maintenance, and repair, TRT provides everything operators need under one roof.
Gavin Halley, General Manager of Sales, Parts, and Service, says it best: “A vehicle can arrive here, and we can offer a full suite of complementary services for whatever it requires.”
This commitment to complete care includes in-house Certificates of Fitness (COF), Warrants of Fitness (WOF), and specialist new-vehicle certification, along with engineering repairs and certified work such as drawbar and draw beam rebuilds, skid plate rebuilds to NZTA requirements, chassis and load anchor repairs, wheelbase alterations, and full tractor unit and truck fit-outs.
TRT also offers comprehensive hydraulic servicing and operates a service exchange programme for trailer axles and transmissions. Its engine capabilities range from diagnostics and emissions troubleshooting to full in-frame and out-of-chassis reconditioning, with Waikato-wide coverage supporting customers wherever they are.
Crane service is another area where TRT leads. Across New Zealand and Australia, TRT provides general crane servicing, scheduled maintenance plans, major inspections and rebuilds, field repair services, and 24/7 technical support. TRT’s crane product support extends across Queensland, the Northern Territory, Papua New Guinea, Laos, Indonesia, and New Caledonia — a true testament to their expertise and reach.
With extensive industry knowledge and a team of OEM-trained specialists, TRT is a registered repairer with most major insurance providers, including UAA, the leading insurer in the crane industry.
This combination of skill, experience, and commitment means TRT delivers total crane care that customers can rely on.
