Congratulations to Luke Martin, TRT’s Apprentice of the Year, 2017, and our two other finalists, Matthew Morgan and Kent Morley.
On the 21 November, 2017, TRT attended the Apprentice of the Year awards at the annual Gallagher Rotary Awards Dinner, recognising excellence in Industry training. TRT was one of several successful Waikato companies that attended, who each made presentations to their top performing trainees or apprentices.
Supported by Sir William and Lady Judy Gallagher, the awards were hosted by the combined Frankton and Te Rapa Rotary Clubs, and held at Wintec Atrium events centre.
Recognising TRT’s talented team is important to the family owned company and as such the finalists were well supported by TRT’s Senior team, including managing director, Kevin Chubb; manufacturing director, Bruce Carden; engineering director, Robert Carden; new COO, Lawrence Baker and HR Manager, Jamie Priemus.
Kevin Chubb, proud managing director said “TRT currently have 17 apprentices that qualified for these awards, and it was a difficult process to select our three finalists from many very deserving entries.” The finalists were selected based on a number of criteria including results achieved, quality of workmanship and enthusiasm and commitment to their trade.
As a large NZ and Waikato engineering company, TRT have diversified their business over many years and have developed a significant apprenticeship programme internally. Apprentices range from steel fabrication and welding, engineers, heavy diesel mechanics and to automotive parts.
“It’s important to TRT and to NZ that we develop talent in an industry that is often experiencing shortages in talent and qualified trades people. TRT holds a strong family value at its core and we are looking to develop a team that is committed to the business for the long haul, that means that we will remain focussed on opportunities for our people to move forward with a career at TRT and offering them more than a job” says Kevin. “This also means investing in apprenticeship and other training programmes”.
As TRT’s apprentice of the year, Luke Martin received a certificate, a $1000 voucher from The Tool Shed, and a Tool bag.
As finalists, Matthew Morgan and Kent Morley each received a certificate, a $100 voucher, and a Tool bag.
