Marine seat refurbishment lets owners kick back for the summer 4

TRT have been supplying seating to the marine industry since the 1980’s, but with recent large-scale builds like “Te Haa” for CentrePort, Wellington and  “Hawk V” for NZ Customs, TRT’s seating division is using its highly skilled team for full boat refurbishment solutions. One such customer required full refit of the flybridge seating on the Vessel Ricochet, their Don Webb designed launch.

After meeting at the Auckland On Water Boat Show, TRT visited with the owners at the Orakei Marina to review the requirements of the seating refit which included 2 captain’s chairs and the re-trimming of a “nine seater” corner lounge area. “We sketched, planned and measured up the current seats and from this process, the team could custom build 2 high-end captain’s chairs.” Said Robbie Greenhalgh, TRT’s seating Manager

Back at TRT’s fully equipped Auckland seat workshop, based in Wiri, the seat technicians constructed a prototype that included all of the custom features required for Ricochet. Following testing and modifications, the final prototype was complete.  The existing chairs were stripped and the refurbishment began with the painting of the alloy to match the satin black features of the vessel’s existing fittings. The chairs were trimmed in “Riverside Seashell” high-grade marine vinyl, to ensure quality finish to last.

The re-trim the lounge suite in the flybridge was required to match the new seating. This involved removing the units, stripping the old fabric off and repairing the foam where wear and tear were a factor. The same high-grade marine vinyl to trim the lounge suite to match the 2 captain’s chairs.

All of the refurbished seating was refit on the vessel at the marina. “This all went smoothly and the clients were extremely happy with the finished product.” Says Greenhalgh

Marc Firman, an owner of Ricochet confirms, “after struggling to find suitable captain’s chairs off the shelf, we were excited to find TRT was a one-stop shop and had no problem in meeting us on the vessel to discuss our requirements. The process was very easy and we are excited to spend the summer on these brand new chairs.”
