Freo Group and TRT: Heavy Haulage Capability Expanded

Freo Quick Connect

OVERVIEW

Freo Group has expanded its heavy logistics capability with a new TRT 10-line ESS Modular Platform Trailer. The platform gives Freo Group more control over oversized transport work across mining, infrastructure and renewable energy projects.

  • Five, seven, eight or 10-row configurations

  • 4.5m heavy duty Bi-fold ramps

SITUATION

Freo Group supports major project work through lifting operations, including mining, infrastructure and renewable energy.

The business had traditionally subcontracted transport requirements while using its crane fleet for loading and unloading equipment.

With the new platform, Freo Group can now manage more of the transport process for clients.

CHALLENGE

Freo Group needed a transport platform that could support oversized moves on and off site.

The unit also needed to work around busy roads, tight worksites and loading under cranes.

For Central Queensland mining work, the trailer needed flexibility across different project requirements.

It also needed to help shift heavy mining equipment from ports to mine sites.

SOLUTION

TRT supplied a new-generation 10-line ESS Modular Platform Trailer for Freo Group.

The unit can operate in five, seven, eight or 10-row configurations, giving Freo Group options for different loads and site conditions.

The trailer also carries TRT’s heavy duty 4.5m Bi-fold ramps, which support loading for Freo Group’s 7, 8 and 9 axle mobile cranes.

TRT’s Electronic Steering System maintains steering geometry across trailer configurations. Jeremy Carden, Trailer Sales at TRT, has pointed to this as a way to support manoeuvrability, tyre life and efficiency.

Safety was also a key focus. The ESS trailer range includes remote-controlled functions and integrated speed interlocks that reduce operator risk.

The platform was officially showcased at a TRT customer event hosted at Qube Heavy Lift’s facilities.

MADE POSSIBLE:

Freo Group now has a platform that supports a broader move into integrated heavy logistics.

The trailer has already been used as a 10-row trailer, then changed into a seven-line setup with a dolly.

Jeremy Carden, Trailer Sales at TRT, said, “They were able to remove the three-axle section in around 15 minutes.”

That early reconfiguration shows the practical value of the modular platform. It also supports reduced downtime for Freo Group’s heavy transport work.

The trailer gives Freo Group more capability across mining, renewable energy and infrastructure work.

It also supports future applications such as wind farm transport and large crawler crane relocation.
